Acoustic ceilings in Devon
We provide acoustic ceilings throughout Devon, from Exeter to Torquay, for commercial, education and public buildings. An acoustic ceiling uses high-absorption tiles, and sometimes denser backing, to cut echo inside a room and stop speech travelling over partitions into the next one.
Acoustic ceilings for Devon buildings
Schools, colleges and university buildings in Plymouth usually want ceilings done in the holidays, with acoustic tiles chosen to help meet Building Bulletin 93 targets in teaching rooms. Coastal and waterside buildings in Plymouth see more humidity in the air, so we look closely at moisture-resistant tiles and better-protected grid near entrances and wet areas.
Typical acoustic ceilings jobs we price in Devon include classrooms refurbished in the holidays, damp-prone rooms in coastal buildings, clinic and surgery refurbishments. Devon is in the South West, around 161 miles from our Birmingham base on average.
What the job includes
- Sound absorption Class A–E to BS EN ISO 11654
- Schools designed to Building Bulletin 93 targets
- Void barriers and over-lays where partitions stop at ceiling height
- Room-to-room attenuation (Dn,f,w) quoted in dB
Questions people ask
Do you cover all of Devon?
Yes. We take on acoustic ceilings across Devon, including Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay, and nearby areas such as Cornwall, Somerset and South Wales.
Can school ceiling work in Plymouth be done in the holidays?
Yes. We plan holiday programmes and agree access, keys and site rules with the school beforehand.
What is the difference between NRC and αw?
Both describe sound absorption. NRC is an American average; αw is the European rating that gives the A–E class used on UK datasheets. Compare tiles using the same measure.
Can you just swap our tiles for acoustic ones?
Often yes. If the existing grid is sound and the right module, we can lay acoustic tiles into it, which is far cheaper than a new ceiling.
